Activists of the Una Janhit Morcha today immersed the ashes of 28 unclaimed bodies in the Ganga in Haridwar. The bodies were cremated by the activists in Una recently. “The volunteers, who have been doing the service for the past many years, also performed religious rites,” said Chairman Hari Om Gupta in a press release.

He said in the past 13 years, 975 bodies, which remained unidentified and unclaimed, were cremated by their organisation after clearance from the local police. “The funds for cremation are arranged from the contributions made by the volunteers and the ashes are kept at the crematorium,” he said, adding that after a few months, the ashes are taken to Kankhal in Haridwar where these are immersed in the Ganga. Morcha volunteers Rajiv Bhanot, Balwinder Kumar Goldi, Shiv Kumar Sambar, Raj Kumar Pathania, Rajiv Sharma and Ashok Rana accompanied Gupta to Haridwar.
