The Rajasthan Police today paraded 13 accused, who were involved in the escape of hardcore criminal Papla from a police station, in underclothes in a market at Behror in Alwar, raising many eyebrows.

The accused were allegedly involved in open firing with AK-47 and helping sensational escape of hardcore criminal Papla, alias Vikram Gujjar, who belongs to Mahendragarh.

Heavily escorted by over 200 policemen, led by Bhiwadi SP Amandeep Singh Kapoor and Additional SP (SOG) Karan Sharma, the 13 men were handcuffed and paraded through a crowded market place.

As the video of the incident went viral, the police action came under scanner. The Bhiwadi SP claimed it was a routine crime recreation in the lock-up uniform.

“It is a routine affair and not an issue. We were not trying to impart any lesson to the accused or people. There was fear that they could hide something in clothes while leaving the lock-up, so they are in undergarments,” Bhiwadi SP Amandeep Singh Kapoor told The Tribune.

“It was to recreate the scene from where they came, where they parked their vehicles, how they entered the police station and opened fire, helping Papla flee,” said Additional SP (SOG) Karan Sharma.

Papla had escaped after over 10 men barged into the Behror police station on September 6 and opened fired. The SOG is investigating the case and 20 accused have been arrested so far. Of them, 13 were involved in attacking, firing and helping Papla flee. Papla was detained for questioning at the police station on September 6 after cops intercepted his SUV during patrolling.
