The shepherd organisations of Kangra organised a protest in front of the office of DC, Kangra, on Monday. They rallied in support of wool shearers, who are on strike demanding regular jobs in the wool federation of Himachal, known as Woolfed.
They also submitted a memorandum of their demands to the district administration.
They said the government should intervene and resolve the demands of wool shearers, so that they can start the shearing operations.
President of shepherd association, Raj Kumar said they suffered losses last year as the sheep shearers went on strike. This year, 11 sheep shearers have gone on strike as the government was not regularising their services. They have been going in different parts of the state for the past one decade and shearing wool for the Woolfed.
Regularisation ruled out
Minister for Animal Husbandry Varinder Kanwar ruled out regularisation of services of wool shearers. He had maintained that they were not the employees of wool federation whose services can be regularised. He said in case the shearers failed to do their job, the government would give shearing operations on contract and may train shepherds directly to shear wool from their sheep.
