Singapore soldiers charged over actor’s death in training

SINGAPORE: Two Singapore soldiers were charged in military court on Wednesday over the death of a popular actor during reservist training in a case that has sparked calls for changes to the country’s system of conscription. Aloysius Pang, who starred in Singapore-produced Chinese language TV shows and movies, was completing compulsory reservist training in New Zealand in January when he suffered serious injuries while repairing artillery. The 28-year-old, who first rose to fame in the predominantly ethnic Chinese city-state as a child actor, died later in hospital. AFP 

Imran orders roll back of roti, naan prices across Pak

Islamabad: The cash-strapped government of Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to roll back the prices of naan and roti across Pakistan amid the public discontent against rising prices of essential commodities. Currently, naan is selling at Rs 12 to Rs 15 in different cities of Pakistan. However, before an increase in the gas tariff and rates of wheat flour, naan price ranged between Rs 8 and Rs 10. Similarly, roti is available at Rs 10 to Rs 12 while its previous rate was Rs 7 to Rs 8, the Dawn report said. Taking note of the public discontent, the Cabinet chaired the PM decided to bring down prices of naan and roti to their previous rates throughout the country. PTI
